Pistachio Baklava Croissants

These croissants combines the flavors of a traditional Middle Eastern Baklava with a simple store bought croissant! It is filled with a luscious pistachio filling and coated with an aromatic orange blossom syrup. Its so easy to prepare and tastes like a bakery style croissant, not even kidding!

 

Recipe yields- 3-4 croissants

Orange Blossom Syrup

1/2 cup- water

1/4 cup- granulated sugar

1/2 tsp- orange blossom water

 

Pistachio Filling

1 cup pistachios - 

1/4 cup unsalted butter - room temp

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

pinch of salt

1 egg

3-4 medium sized croissants

 

Prepare orange blossom syrup:

In a medium size sauce pan over medium heat add sugar and water. Boil until all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and add 1/2 tsp orange blossom water. Place syrup in a mason jar in the fridge to cool.

Prepare pistachio filling:

Place 1 cup of pistachios in a blender or food processor. Grind until mixture resembles sands. Do not overmix or it will turn into paste. 

Place pistachio flour into a large mixing bowl. Add butter, sugar, egg, salt and cinnamon. Mix until everything is combined. Add filling into a piping bag.

To assemble:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking tray and set aside. Cut open your croissants half way, brush the inside with the orange blossom syrup and pipe some pistachio filling inside. Coat the outside of the croissant with more orange blossom syrup and then add just a dollop of pistachio filling on top. 

Bake for 10-13 minutes or until golden brown on top. Remove from oven and let cool completely before adding powdered sugar.
